By Sam Menard · Updated October 10, 2026

Most Mass Save and NYS Clean Heat rebates keep running into 2027. A few do not. This page lists the ones with a date attached: EV charger rebates in Massachusetts, limited-time heat pump water heater offers in New York, and the filing date for 2026 Mass Save heat pumps. We checked the utilities' own pages on October 10, 2026.

Quick quiz: how rebate programs work

Seven questions that apply almost everywhere. Tap an answer to see why.

1. When should you check if you qualify for a rebate?

Many programs refuse work that started before approval.

2. Can you often combine rebates from different programs?

A utility rebate and a government one may stack. Check each program's stacking rules.

3. Why do some rebates need a registered contractor?

Check the official list before you accept a quote.

4. What should you keep for your claim?

Programs often ask for these, sometimes within a short window.

5. Why does your utility matter?

Two homes in one city can have different rebates if they have different utilities.

6. What is a qualified product list?

Check your exact model number before you buy.

7. Can a program's amount or rules change?

Always read the official page, and note the date you checked.

Massachusetts: EV charger rebates are the ones with real cliffs

Eversource says its current Massachusetts EV charging rebate program ends on December 31, 2026, and that applications must be complete and include Managed Charging enrollment by November 1, 2026 to get a rebate. Rebates cover the wiring or panel work for a 240-volt outlet: up to $700 on the standard rate for one household, and up to $1,400 for a charger shared by households in a two-to-four unit building. Eversource says it is waiting for the state to approve a 2027 program and that installs finished after November 1 may be able to apply if one exists. That is not a promise, so do not count on it.

National Grid's page is stricter about timing. It says to complete eligible work and submit your application by December 10, 2026, and that applications after that date are not eligible. Its wiring rebate is up to $700 for a single-family home. You must also enroll in its Off-Peak Charging program, which pays about $100 a year, and National Grid says rebate checks take 6 to 8 weeks after enrollment is confirmed. It says incentives are expected to change in 2027.

If you are planning a charger, the order of work is: book the electrician, check your charger is on your utility's approved list, enroll in the utility's charging program, and file. Our Massachusetts EV charger page has the full amounts.

Massachusetts: Mass Save heat pumps

Mass Save's air-source heat pump page says qualifying equipment must be purchased and installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026, and that all supporting documents must be submitted or postmarked by February 28, 2027. We confirmed the date on October 10, 2026. An archived copy of the page from July 16, 2026 lists whole-home rebates of $2,650 per ton up to $8,500; check masssave.com for the current amounts before you buy. The Mass Save plan itself covers 2025 through 2027, so there is no December 31 cliff for heat pumps that we can point to. Our Mass Save guide and Massachusetts hub list the rest.

One date is already behind us. The federal tax credits for heat pumps and other home upgrades (25C) and for solar (25D) ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, so there is no year-end federal credit rush in 2026.

New York: heat pump water heaters have a limited-time offer

The NYS Clean Heat program manual (version 3, effective September 1, 2026) sets a limited-time offer for heat pump water heaters. Con Edison raises its rebate from $1,300 to $1,500 for applications submitted from September 1 to November 30, 2026. That is the only one of the group where the homeowner's amount goes up.

NYSEG and RG&E run the same September 1 to November 30 window, but the manual keeps their base amount at $1,250 and raises only the payments to distributors ($300 instead of $150) and installers ($200 instead of $50). Orange & Rockland's offer runs September 15 to December 31, 2026, with the same kind of change: distributor $300 and installer $200, with the $1,250 amount unchanged. The extra payments go to the trade, which may or may not show up in your quote, so ask your installer.

The manual limits a household to one heat pump water heater rebate per account per calendar year, and sales of two or more to one address need pre-approval. For Con Edison, our Con Edison guide has the details.

New York: heat pump space heating has no year-end date

The manual's new higher amounts for weatherized homes began on September 1, 2026. We found no year-end cutoff for the main heat pump rebates, but the manual says utilities can change amounts, timing and caps at any time, and that your rebate is based on the rules in effect when you apply. If you have a contract in hand, apply sooner rather than later. See our NYS Clean Heat guide.

What to do first

  1. If you want an EV charger rebate, book the electrician now. November 1 (Eversource) and December 10 (National Grid) are the ones that can cost you the rebate.
  2. If you plan to replace a water heater in Con Edison territory, apply before November 30 to get $1,500 instead of $1,300.
  3. If you installed a heat pump in 2026 in Massachusetts, file your Mass Save application well before February 28, 2027. Do not wait for the last day.
  4. Keep invoices, model numbers and photos of the equipment. Each program asks for them.

Common questions

When does the Eversource Massachusetts EV charger rebate end?

Eversource says the current program ends on December 31, 2026. Applications must be complete, with Managed Charging enrollment, by November 1, 2026.

What is the National Grid Massachusetts EV charging deadline?

National Grid says to complete eligible work and submit your application by December 10, 2026. Applications after that date are not eligible, and it expects incentives to change in 2027.

When is the Mass Save heat pump deadline for 2026?

Mass Save says equipment installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026 must have its documents submitted or postmarked by February 28, 2027. We confirmed this on October 10, 2026.

Is the Con Edison heat pump water heater offer ending?

Yes. The $1,500 limited-time offer applies to applications submitted from September 1 to November 30, 2026. The regular rebate is $1,300.

Do the federal heat pump tax credits end this year?

They already ended. The 25C and 25D credits do not apply to property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

Will EV charger rebates return in 2027?

Both utilities say they expect changes in 2027. Eversource is waiting for state approval of a 2027 program. Neither has confirmed amounts.
