Real money, real benefits

What are the benefits of solar + battery in Chilliwack?

Six ways the system pays you back. Each one is real. Each one adds up.

$10,000

Cheque from BC Hydro

Up to $5,000 for your solar panels and $5,000 for your battery. Paid 30 to 45 days after your system is turned on.

~$3,000

Peak Saver rewards

A one-time enrollment incentive of up to $500, plus up to $250 each winter season. BC Hydro pays you for letting your battery help the grid during peak demand.

~$700/yr

Lower monthly power bills

Make your own power when the sun is out. Use your stored battery power in the evening. Most Chilliwack homes save $50 to $80 a month.

Home value up

Sells for more later

Homes with solar and battery often sell for more. Buyers want lower power bills too. Your investment may pay back at sale time.

Always on

Power that stays on during outages

When the grid goes down — wildfires, storms, ice — your battery keeps your fridge, lights, and internet running.

Locked in

Less hurt from rate hikes

Power prices keep going up. When you make your own power, those hikes don’t hurt as much. Your roof becomes your power plant.

What it costs

How much does solar + battery cost in Chilliwack?

Real numbers, no surprises. Here’s what a typical Chilliwack home pays out of pocket after rebates.

What you’ll spend

Most Chilliwack homes need both solar panels and a home battery. Together, that’s a system in the $30,000 to $38,000 range. After BC Hydro’s $10,000 in rebates, your out-of-pocket cost drops to around $20,000 to $28,000.

Many installers offer financing with monthly payments lower than your current power bill. Your matched installer will share options.

The battery we install

A Canadian-engineered battery built for BC weather.

Most batteries sold in BC are designed for milder climates. Ours isn’t. It’s engineered in Canada specifically for cold winters, hot summers, and BC’s grid — including direct compatibility with Peak Saver, which pays you up to $250 each winter.

  • On BC Hydro’s approved battery list — qualifies for the full $5,000 battery rebate when enrolled in Peak Saver.
  • Built for cold climates — designed for performance in BC’s real winters, not California showrooms.
  • Whole-home backup ready — keeps essentials running through wildfire outages and winter storms.
  • 10-year manufacturer warranty — with support based in Canada, not overseas.

How we’re different

Why work with HomePowerRebate instead of going direct?

Most websites sell your info to lots of installers. Then you get bombarded with calls. We don’t do that.

“I tried three different sites. Got 15 calls in 2 days. HomePowerRebate sent me one installer who actually knew the rules. Way easier.”

Why now

Why apply for the rebate this year?

BC Hydro is investing $1.1 billion over three years. Rebates are flowing today — but rules tightened in 2026.

EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2026

Approved-contractor rule kicked in

BC Hydro now only pays rebates if your installer is on their approved contractor list. Many local contractors didn’t qualify. Every installer in our network does.

EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2026

New power rate kicked in

BC Hydro changed how it pays for extra power your solar makes. Many quotes online still use the old numbers. Our calculator uses the new ones.

Why Chilliwack

Is Chilliwack a good place for solar + battery?

2,000+

Hours of sun a year

Chilliwack gets way more sun than the BC coast. More sun means more savings. Your solar panels work harder here than almost anywhere else in BC.

35%

More power outages

Wildfires, storms, and ice mean Okanagan outages happen more often and last longer. A battery keeps your home running when the grid goes down.

85%

Of homes are detached

Most Chilliwack homes are houses with their own roofs and yards — perfect for solar panels and a battery box in the garage.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about BC Hydro rebates in Chilliwack

A typical Chilliwack home gets about $20,000 in value over 10 years — and real peace of mind on top of that. The money breaks down to $10,000 in BC Hydro rebate cheques, around $3,000 in Peak Saver enrollment and seasonal rewards, and about $7,000 in lower power bills. The battery also keeps your home running through wildfires and grid outages — that’s hard to put a number on, but it’s real.

Power Smart 2.0 is BC Hydro’s $1.1 billion three-year program to help homeowners and businesses use energy more efficiently. It launched in 2026 and includes the solar and battery rebate, Peak Saver rewards, heat pump rebates, insulation rebates, and free smart thermostats. The program goal is to save 2,200 GWh per year — enough to power 220,000 homes. Read more on BC Hydro’s site →

Yes. You don’t pay us anything to use HomePowerRebate. The installer pays us a small finder’s fee — but only if you decide to book a job. If you decide not to do it, that’s fine. No cost. No pressure.

Our Chilliwack installer uses the Eguana Evolve battery system. It’s a Canadian-engineered home battery designed for cold-climate performance, on BC Hydro’s approved battery list under Power Smart 2.0, and qualifies for the full $5,000 battery rebate when enrolled in Peak Saver. We chose it because it’s built for BC’s real weather and backed by Canadian support.

Peak Saver is a BC Hydro rewards program that pays homeowners for letting their connected devices (including home batteries) help the grid during peak demand windows. When you enroll your battery, BC Hydro pays an enrollment incentive of up to $500, plus a seasonal reward of up to $250 each winter. In exchange, BC Hydro can briefly discharge your battery during peak periods — usually cold winter evenings. You can override anytime. Over 10 years this typically adds up to about $3,000 on top of your battery rebate. See BC Hydro’s Peak Saver page →

BC Hydro doesn’t include Tesla products on its approved battery list. If you install a Powerwall, you get zero rebate — that’s $5,000 left on the table. Read the full story →

Power Smart 2.0 also offers up to $4,000 for heat pumps, up to $1,000 for heat pump water heaters, up to $5,500 for insulation upgrades, up to $2,000 for energy-efficient windows and doors, and free smart thermostats for homes with electric baseboard heating.

You can install solar panels, a battery, or both. The full $10,000 rebate is for solar + battery together. If you already have solar panels, you can add a battery and still get the $5,000 battery rebate. Battery-only is also allowed if you enroll in Peak Saver.

About 4 to 8 weeks total. Your installer files paperwork with BC Hydro (1 to 3 weeks). Then they come to your home and install the system (1 to 3 days). Then a quick inspection. Your rebate cheque arrives 30 to 45 business days after that.

The BC Hydro rebate only works if BC Hydro is your power company. FortisBC customers don’t qualify. But solar and a battery can still save you money over time. Fill out the form and we’ll have our installer give you the FortisBC version of the numbers.

About this guide

Where these numbers come from

This guide is published by HomePowerRebate, an independent service that matches British Columbia homeowners with one approved local installer for the BC Hydro Power Smart 2.0 program. We track BC Hydro program changes weekly and update this page whenever rates, eligibility, or rebate amounts change.

All rebate amounts on this page reference official BC Hydro documentation, including the Solar and Battery Rebate page and the Peak Saver rewards program. Savings estimates assume a typical Chilliwack home with average power use; your actual numbers depend on your specific situation.

We are not affiliated with BC Hydro. We do not collect application fees from homeowners. We earn a referral fee from our matched installer only when a homeowner books an installation.
