What Lethbridge homeowners can claim
Alberta's rebate landscape is fragmented across utilities and financing programs rather than one province-wide system. All amounts below are in Canadian dollars.
🔥 Heat Pump
Through ENMAX or ATCO Gas, for ENERGY STAR cold-climate models. Availability changes through the year — confirm before you buy.
☀️ Solar
No province-wide solar rebate, but Fortis Alberta has offered utility-specific incentives worth roughly $0–$2,000 depending on availability. Net metering is your other main financial mechanism.
🔌 Battery Storage
No dedicated battery storage incentive currently exists in Alberta.
🌡️ Insulation
Via CEIP financing at Lethbridge's 2.83% fixed rate, with a $1,350 rebate against your balance, plus utility rebates. CMHC's separate 25% refund program may also apply.
💧 Water Heater
No flat rebate. Available through CEIP financing or utility-specific offers from ATCO, EPCOR, or ENMAX.
🟩 Windows & Doors
May qualify for CEIP financing as part of a broader envelope upgrade, but no standalone rebate.
🚘 EV Charger
No confirmed residential EV charger rebate in Alberta as of 2026.
🌡️ Smart Thermostat
No standalone grant, though CEIP-financed HVAC upgrades sometimes include one.
CEIP in Lethbridge: a real $1,350 rebate on top of financing
The Clean Energy Improvement Program lets you finance eligible upgrades — solar, insulation, heat pumps, tankless water heaters, windows and doors — through your property tax bill, repaid over up to 25 years with no penalty for paying it off early. Lethbridge sets its own rate and its own top-up: as of 2026, the city's CEIP runs a 2.83% fixed interest rate and a $1,350 rebate (up from $800) applied straight against what you owe, so it shrinks your financed balance rather than showing up as a cheque. The city bumped the rebate up after the federal Canada Greener Homes Grant was scrapped, to help fill some of that gap. You'll need at least $3,000 of eligible project cost to qualify, and total eligible costs are capped at $50,000 per property. It's still financing, not free money — you're paying for the full upgrade either way — but the $1,350 knocked off the balance is a genuine, Lethbridge-specific perk you won't get from CEIP in most other Alberta cities. Lethbridge also runs its own separate Environmental Incentive Program, but it's worth knowing what it actually covers: 50% off (up to $100 per item, $400 max per household) rain barrels and low-flow toilet replacements, credited to your water utility account. It's a genuine local rebate, just a water-conservation one rather than an energy one — it won't help pay for a heat pump or solar panels.

Renting or living in a condo?
If you rent
The rebates above go to whoever owns the equipment, so as a tenant you can't claim the ENMAX/ATCO heat pump or solar incentives yourself — that's your landlord's call. If you want a heat pump or solar in your rental, point your landlord to this page; CEIP financing in particular is worth mentioning since it's repaid through the property tax bill rather than upfront cash.
If you own a condo unit
In-unit upgrades you're personally responsible for — a water heater, an in-suite heat pump — can generally still go through the same ENMAX/ATCO utility rebates as any homeowner, as long as your condo board signs off on anything touching shared systems or the building exterior. CEIP is tied to a property tax account, so confirm with the CEIP administrator whether your unit qualifies on its own or only through the corporation.
If it's a whole-building retrofit
Honestly: Alberta's fragmented, utility-by-utility market doesn't have a confirmed dedicated multi-unit or condo-corporation rebate program the way some other provinces do. A condo board looking at a building-wide heat pump or solar project should contact ENMAX, ATCO, and the CEIP administrator directly to ask what, if anything, applies at the corporation level — rather than assume the per-unit numbers above scale up automatically.
