Home Energy Rebates in Salem

Thinking about a heat pump in Salem before winter? Here's exactly what Mass Save pays in 2026 — and a refrigerant rule change you need to know before you buy.

Salem is a National Grid town, and National Grid participates fully in Mass Save. That means Salem homeowners get the same statewide rebate amounts as Boston. All amounts below are in US dollars.

Important: refrigerant rule change. Starting January 1, 2026, Mass Save stopped rebating heat pumps that use R-410A refrigerant. Only R-32 and R-454B systems qualify now. If a contractor quotes you an R-410A system, you will not get the Mass Save rebate — ask directly which refrigerant is in the unit before signing anything.

EV charger rebates

EV charger incentives in Salem come through National Grid directly, not a flat Mass Save number — check National Grid's own program page for the current amount before budgeting for one.

Renting or living in a condo in Salem? Here's what applies to you

Most of the rebate figures above assume you own the property and control the whole building. That's not everyone in Salem's dense downtown and historic districts. If you rent, the structural rebates (heat pump, insulation, windows) go to your landlord, not you — ask about a free smart thermostat during a home energy assessment, which is often available to renters too. If you own a condo unit, in-unit upgrades may still qualify with your building's approval; a whole-building retrofit goes through a separate Mass Save multi-unit program instead of the numbers above.
