The Main Program: TECH Clean CA
SCE doesn't hand out heat pump rebates directly through its own website in most cases. Instead, it funds a statewide program called TECH Clean CA. Your installer applies for this rebate on your behalf — you don't fill out separate SCE paperwork.
- Base rebate: about $3,100 for a qualifying heat pump system
- Disadvantaged Community (DAC) bonus: higher rebate if your neighborhood is flagged as a DAC by the state
- Hard-to-reach bonus: extra money if you're in a rural or under-served part of the SCE service area

What Else You Can Stack
1. Federal HEEHRA rebate
The federal High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate program can add thousands more if your household income qualifies. This stacks on top of TECH Clean CA — it doesn't replace it.
2. EV charger rebate: $500
If you also install a home EV charger, SCE offers around $500 through the same marketplace program.
3. Smart thermostat rebate: $50
A small but easy add-on. Ask your contractor to include it on the same paperwork.
What It Actually Costs
Across California, a typical heat pump install runs around $19,844 before any rebate. With the SCE/TECH Clean CA rebate of $3,100, plus federal credits if you qualify, your real bill drops significantly. Get two or three contractor quotes — prices vary a lot by installer.
